Timelessness of Angellace...
Crochet
is an intricate needlecraft, an art form practiced throughout the world. For
me, it is much more than that.
Over the years, I've talked
with many people about Angellace pieces and the art of crochet. Several have
said, "My grandmother used to crochet." Well, my grandmother did,
too.
I
was fascinated watching her hands fly in what appeared to be a mindless flurry
of hook and thread, while she chatted away. In the end, she had always created
a thing of beauty. From the time I was a little girl, I attempted to mimic her
art, but I had little success. Even with her and my mother's tutelage, I just
could not get the hang of it. I am, however, a determined individual. As a young
adult, I decided that no thread or hook in this world was going to get the better
of me.
From that point on, crochet, especially thread crochet, has meant solace and satisfaction for me. I crochet to calm my mind, to recuperate from a day of stress, and to create a piece of beauty. Starting with a basic pattern, starching and shaping, adding embellishments and adornments, bringing a piece of art to realization, I feed my soul. I often refer to it as "my therapy."
The creative process soothes me, and the end result always brings me satisfaction. Each Angellace piece is unique. It's handmade with its own assortment of stitches and embellishments. I enjoy making everything from Christmas tree ornaments to heirloom baptism dresses to wall hangings. Diversity and experimentation thrive in the world of Angellace.

About
Carol MacDougall...
I am a native Vermonter and live in Barre. I am the proud mother of a daughter
and a son, both of whom are successful adults. I am the equally proud grandmother
of two grandsons.
Following my twenty year career as a social worker, I am now enjoying retirement.
I have been fortunate to be able to travel with family and friends to some fabulous
places, both in the United States and abroad. I thoroughly enjoy being at the
beach - any beach. I have wonderful stories to tell about trips to Europe, Egypt
and Scotland. Since my retirement, I am doing more knitting and felting projects.
Tending my flower gardens is one of the joys of my summers. My favorite winter
activity involves a warm fire and a good book.
